I read JTHM last night and Squee today, and now you all get to hear what I think. Yay! :D

I liked them both, with the Squee book marginally ahead, for many petty superficial reasons. I was not as bothered by JTHM's violence as I thought I would be, but then it is just black and white artwork (though admittedly at times very explicit and weird). The thing that bothered me the most, really, was the person who had the jar of bugs in their mouth, because I really hate bugs.

I waver on whether or not I like Nny. On the one hand, I enjoy his criminally insane musings and feel bad that he's always so depressed (bite me, I'm a sap), but on the other hand, he is, like Vera says, just as petty as the people he kills. He just speaks more eloquently. Everyone says that he 'only kills assholes', and while he does kill a lot of those, he also just kills people who strike his fancy as needing to be killed. I think one of my favorite parts of the whole book (besides the Devi/Nny scene) was when he had a guy all up in a torture device and then made him taste things from his fridge, and then at the end let him go. So I'm rather ambivalent. (I also liked the bit with Jimmy) I like how Jhonen is obviously trying not to glorify the violence and how he yells at people who think he is.

The Doughboys are scary, scary things.

Todd/Squee is extremely cute, I want to adopt him. I also really enjoyed the Meanwhiles, especially the 'autobiographical' ones. Jhonen is cute.

And Jaimie-J, you were right, there isn't any contact information on the compilation books... I searched for it and it was not there.

I brought both books with me to school today and they were enjoyed and/or given looks of terror by all I forced them upon. I'm bringing them tomorrow as well.

You'll notice the lack of emoticons in this post...that's because I'm trying to cut back when I write here (though I will still use them liberally in IM conversations).

Of course there's pages more I could say on what I thought of these books, but most of it is just 'I like so and so' or 'I didn't like so and so,' which I suppose would be rather boring.

I'm hungry.
