Reading this makes me want to go play video games. To be honest, I'm a fan of video games more than I'm a fan of anime. I got into video games before anime, and I still like them more. But I don't write fanfiction about them, generally, because I'm Not Good At It.
The games that I play--RPGs, of course--are really a lot like interactive anime, to me. I mean, most console RPGs (and some may argue that it's not proper to call these games RPGs and only such pen&paper pursuits like D&D [which I've never played] are worthy of the moniker, and I might agree, but it's still the easiest/best classification) are done in the 'anime' style, with Japanese artwork and storytelling themes. While I can get lost in a good anime, RPGs are in general more immersive--you're not just watching the action unfold, you're making the action unfold. Of course, this becomes frustrating when you come across a puzzle or a boss (twice as frustrating with bosses, IMO) you can't defeat the action stalls, but even so: if I were given the choice between watching a brand new anime and playing a brand new RPG, I would play the RPG. ^_^;
