Let's see. Time for more FFIX talk. Or rather, thief talk.

Zidane is one of my favorite main VG characters ever. This is an amazing feat, because he's a thief, and the way thieves are portrayed in a lot of media (especially video games) annoys me. You know, I doubt there are a lot of actual thieves who are actually warm-hearted, friendly people. And Zidane is one of the most warm-hearted, friendly characters I've ever come across ^^; Most of the people in Tantalus seem like they're pretty nice, even the leader. Locke (FF3/6) was a pretty nice guy. Rei and Teepo (BoF3) were pretty nice people too. Most thieves in RPGs are pretty nice people, and it just bothers me because thieves are not nice people. I'm sure there are some who are good and kind and probably only steal to feed their starving families, but most thieves throughout history have been ruthless and greedy. But it doesn't bother me too much, because it's not like Square is saying all thieves are wonderful people--just these few.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I've seen a lot of people saying that FFIX's character designs are unrealistic, and from a traditional standpoint, they are. But let's think for a moment. Zidane is 16. He looks 16. Vivi is 9. He looks 9. Eiko is 6. She looks six. All the characters, despite having heads that are a bit large, look their age. What more realism do you want? Remember also that this is Final Fantasy. I personally don't think 8 had much of that 'fantasy' at all. More like Final Science Fiction or something lame like that. =P I also don't think 7 and 8's characters looked their ages--Cloud, to me, looked at least 25, and Tifa.. jeez, like 27 or something. Old. Not late teens or early 20's, late 20s or early 30s. Sephiroth was converse--he's 30 (by most people's deduction) but he looks much younger, though I attribute this to a lot of things which are spoilers for people who haven't played. Only Vincent looked his age (27). The 8 characters looked pretty old to me, too--most 18 year olds I know, even the ones who are as cute as Squall--don't look like that. They just don't.

Anyone who likes Elazul is A-OK with me. :3 But I love Pearl, or rather, Blackpearl...can we say 'badass'? I always cry whenever I save the Jumi...and I've done it three times.. X3;; I love the Jumi :D (probably why I twisted their concept and made a Sailormoon RPG of it). Which, by the way, is not dead. The story is moving and I am reading the (very few) apps I get...to those few, I'm sorry you've had to wait so long ;__; I'll update results soon. Like today. X3;

Ah, but the Marquis was just who I was thinking of, Donna. I don't care how good of a writer he was, that man deserved to have his ass kicked. Lyn has no tolerance for people that cheat on their wives. NONE AT ALL. To me, the Marquis was just a brat who thought he could get away with whatever the hell he wanted, and you just can't do that. I believe in freedom of speech, but I also believe that personal freedom only extends until you encroach on someone else's freedom. And he definitely encroached on other people's freedom, not to mention he was a violent bastard. If he wasn't already dead I'd kill him, and I say that with full sincerity. Not only was all those things I said, but he continued abusing his wife even after she forgave/defended his indiscretions numerous times.

I don't care what people write. But as soon as you start acting on violent impulses, then I say lock you up and toss away the key. Thoughts and actions are two very different things, and talent does not excuse cruelty.

Plus Edgar Allen Poe never really hurt anyone, I don't think. He was just really depressed. I like Poe. :3

::glomps Kat:: I'm not mad :3 It's just that with the release of American McGee's Alice and then the showing of the new Alice in Wonderland, I've been hearing a lot of people talkin bad bout Mr. Dodgson and it's getting on my nerves ^^; He was not a druggie, he was not a pedophile, he was nothing anyone says he is, he was just insane (but in a good way =p). And he liked making children happy. My best explanation for the weirdness of his stories is that a lot of them were told on the spot to a group of children that he'd take out on outings as a favor to his friend (who was their father I think). They would go boating and such and he'd make up the stories as they went along. The only reason they got written down was because the girl Alice was based on kept bugging him until he did. ^^; A lot of references to himself and to Alice's friends and family had to be taken out though... (the Dodo mentioned in the beginning of the book is supposed to be Carroll/Dodgson himself :3)

I'm not sure I agree with you on the character and body of work thing...it's something I think about a lot actually. ^^; I mean, what if you had this person who wrote beautiful, moving stories, but he also happened to be a mass murderer? I'm just not sure I can subscribe to the 'love the art not the artist' theory because artistic expression is such an extension of whoever created the story/artwork/whatever. I can understand if the person was just merely self-absorbed and grumpy though (like I am =p)... ^^;

I'm trying to keep my blog spoiler-free in regards to Chrono Cross and FFIX (like Vera), although I've never minded spoilers myself so I'll have to be careful and mark it..^^; Right now I'm stuck in a place called Gizamaluke's Grotto, but I think it's mostly because my party isn't full.. ^^; I'm also on Level 10, which might not be high enough... :3

And I'm in the Hydra Marshes in Chrono Cross. ^^; It's been depressing lately because I keep getting my ass kicked in both games and I used to hardly ever lose a battle.. x.x maybe I'm just rusty..^^;

I lose my ICQ list all the time Vera.. :3 I feel your pain ^^;

Brief, preliminary thoughts on Chrono Cross and FFIX:

I like it XD I hate Leena though..damn, she's a bitch. x.x I can't believe she just ordered Serge around like that and he just takes it. Jeez. I love Kid and Pierre though..hahaha.. Kid is an awesome female character and I always love fruity French swordsmen :3 I personally think the distinct dialects that pepper the game give the characters more personality..I also think they're done very well. I like the battle system.. I'm trying to go through both games sans a strategy guide, and I've already solved a few CC puzzles..so that makes me proud of myself, since I'm stupid and not very good at even the simplest of puzzles.

Glenn is also very tasty.

Arr, I love it XD I'm really into this game, I've hardly begun and it's already made me cry ;_; The charactere are all extremely lovable, especially Zidane..he's such a cute little monkey! I want to pick him and Vivi up and squeeze them into tiny pieces :3 I really like Garnet, too--I think she's the best 'princess' type character since Terra, if you consider a princess type. She looks a lot like Rinoabitch, but her personality is so different that it's all good. She's responsible, mature, and non-whiny... but at the same time she still acts like she's something of a Princess. I much prefer her and Zidane to Rinoa and Squall, especially since I constantly want to beat the crap out of both of the latter couple. I also think Zidane/Vivi would be cute and plausible, except for the facts that I like Garnet so much and that Vivi just seems like he's a little kid to me. ^^; So thinking of him with anyone is like pedophilia over here. I still want to hug him though :3 (and I want to see what he looks like beneath that hat x.x) Steiner is annoying, but I have to admit that's he not a bad fellow and he is useful in battle. He just bugs the hell out of me for some reason. ^^; And the moogles are supahcute :B

I like the fact that the walking speed is fast enough so that I don't have to always be dashing everywhere if I don't want to... the battle system is ehh, I have no problem with it, but really my favorite battle system was the one in FF7...I actually prefer real time battles as opposed to turn-based bouts, but I'm okay with either. I probably like the real time (if you don't know what I mean, think Secret of Mana/Legend of Mana and the Legend of Zelda series') better because I'm sort of a melee person..get in there, kick ass, get out XD; Whereas turn-based forces you to be more strategic, which is sort of fun (like in Tactics..I loved the Tactics battles), but not as much as running in and beating the crap out of monsters. ^^;

So those are my first thoughts..expect to hear a lot about these games, as I'm sure I'll be fairly obsessed with them in the following weeks.. o.o I really love playing video games.. I sort of get lost in the story and action, and it's like nothing else around me even exists. Like when I'm reading a book, but often more intense. It's great. XD

I haven't started CC yet (tho I think I'll go do that after I write this, since no one's on anyways X3), but I already love FF9. Zidane and Vivi ARE SO CUTE XD I love Zidane's tail. I want to pet it :B And Vivi stutters! HOW CUTE IS THAT.

I went and saw Dracula 2000 today. It was 'okay.' Not dazzling, not horrible, just kind of mediocre. ^^; But I don't regret going, so that's good. :3 Tomorrow is Christmas for meee...I really hope I get a video game...some video game... I need a new video game. ._.
